Bio

Frank Almendra (Austin, TX) is a Brazilian musician living in the US since 1994 that delivers talent, diversity, grace and a multitude of rhythms in his songwriting. Writing songs both in English and Portuguese, he is a member of many local Brazilian music acts in town and other music styles as well, performing live on a weekly basis. Also works as studio session man. Plays and writes on acoustic, electric guitars, cavaquinho ( 4 string ) and Brazilian viola ( 10 string ). Deftly skating between genres, Frank uses all his music background from his native Brazil mixed with his love for American music to deliver recordings and performances that make audiences ask for more.

This site is a central platform for all his creative projects, including lyrics, poetry, short stories and it is also his main point of contact. He is currently involved in the following music projects:

Seu Jacinto : The original Texas Forró band.

Samba Bamba: Samba and pagode small group,  with different musicians. Perfect for restaurants, smaller venues and private parties.

Tio Chico : project highlighting original compositions and songs co-written with friends all over the years.

Macaxeira Funk: A Funktastic Samba-Funk orchestra

Morena Soul : Brazilian MPB and Samba

Others:

The Long Fox Project: Instrumental World Music duo project highlighting Frank’s composition on Brazilian Viola, along with Michael Longoria on Percussion.

A Maré: An Afoxé trio that makes a musical journey through the Caribbean, Cape Verde, Western Africa and Brazil.

Canoa: World / Folk / Brazilian music, also for smaller venues, a music experimentation adventure fusing diverse music and rhythm influences.
